Around 150 people gathered to pay their respects to Doncaster’s fallen soldiers at a memorial event to mark the centenary of the start of the first world war.

The sun was shining for the service which took place at the war memorial in Bennetthorpe where poppy wreaths were laid in memory of those who lost their lives.

Dozens lined the streets around the war memorial to witness dignitaries including the Civic Mayor Pat Haith, members of The Cadet Forces and Veterans Association to pay their respects.
