A Doncaster school set a new world record today.
More than 300 students at Sir Thomas Wharton Community College in Edlington broke the current Guinness World Record for the most people performing lunges for a minute.
It was highlight of the whole-school Sports Day event involving over 1,200 people, with the record attempt being made under very strict monitoring conditions set out by Guinness World Records team. The event also raised more than £300 for the school’s 2014 charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
It was started just after 1pm by Civic Mayor Pat Haith, acting as the adjudicator, sounding a klaxon and was verified by staff from Doncaster College University Centre, Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, Doncaster Rotary Club International and Bluebell Wood.
The current record for the most people performing lunges before today was 267 and was achieved by Novo Nordisk at Westminster Park Plaza, London, in February 2013.
