A young driver was arrested today after a two-car crash which closed one of Doncaster’s main roads.

A Ford Puma and a Fiat 500 were in collision on the A19 near Toll Bar just after 8am and rush hour traffic was diverted through Carcroft.

Firefighters spent almost an hour releasing a man and woman trapped in the Fiat and they were both taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old man, was arrested by police who attended, on suspicion of driving while over the alcohol limit.

The A19 between Adwick Lane and Bentley Moor Lane was closed until 11am for the police investigation.
