Campaigners fighting to keep the East Coast railway line, which serves Doncaster, in public ownership are travelling to London today to hand over a petition.
The groups Action for Rail, We Own It and Bring Back British Rail, together with transport unions, are handing over the 23,000 signature document to shadow rail minister Lilian Greenwood MP and Green Party MP Caroline Lucas.
At Doncaster station, Action for Rail protesters were handing out ‘Keep East Coast public’ postcards to commuters between 8am and 9am.
The East Coast Main Line is the only remaining publicly-owned line in the UK. It has been in public ownership since 2009, after two previous private train operators hit financial difficulties.
