The Highways Agency will carry out overnight repairs and maintenance work on parts of the A1 through Yorkshire from tonight.

The work involves resurfacing and replacing road markings as well as road studs on the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A1 between Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire, and Redhouse in South Yorkshire.

It is due to start tonight and should be completed by March 30.

The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am and will require various overnight carriageway closures, with clearly-signed diversions in place.

* Saturday 15 March – northbound carriageway closed between Redhouse and Barnsdale.

* Saturday 22 March – northbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Ferrybridge.

* Sunday 23 March – southbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Ferrybridge.

* Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March – southbound carriageway closed between Barnsdale and Redhouse.

Closures are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions.

Highways Agency project sponsor Alan Apps said: “This is routine work to tackle wear and tear on this section of the A1, and will result in improved journeys for road users. By carrying out the work overnight, we will be keeping disruption to a minimum, but drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.”
