Leger Holidays announces special Rotherham roadshow to mark WW1 Centenary

Local battlefield tour specialist Leger Holidays is to hold a special World War One Centenary roadshow in Rotherham town centre tomorrow, marking the week that saw Britain enter WW1 100 years ago.

There will be a representation of a battlefield trench in 3D pavement art, where visitors can imagine they are stood on the frontline.

Leger’s specialist battlefield guide, Keith Quibell, will be there to talk to visitors and offer insights into WW1 and advice for individuals who may be looking to find out more about a relative’s involvement in the conflict.

The company, whose headquarters are based on Canklow Meadows, is encouraging local residents who have personal stories of family members in the First World War to come and speak to the team at the event.

The event marks the start of Leger’s Message on a Poppy tour where members of the public are asked to write a message of remembrance on special red poppies, which will be made into an eye-catching display. These, and others, will be taken to a museum or cemetery in France to be exhibited in time for Remembrance Day and for the duration of the Centenary.

In addition, there will be children’s activities provided by the York and Lancaster Regimental Museum at Clifton Park, including themed crafts and dressing up.

The activity will be based on All Saints Square in Rotherham town centre between 9am-4pm. Anyone wanting to book a holiday at the event will also receive a 10% discount.

Leger Holidays is the UK’s leading battlefield tour operator, with over 40 tours covering the First and Second World Wars, and conflicts including the Boer and Zulu Wars and the Civil War.

All Leger’s battlefield tours are accompanied by a specialist battlefield guide. For more information visit http://battlefields.leger.co.uk/ or call 0844 324 9256.
