A recruitment open day is being held in Wath to fill 40 new jobs which have been created at a new waste treatment facility in Manvers.

Anyone interested is invited to drop in to Wath Community Library on Wednesday, September 17, from 9am and 7pm, to find out more about the BDR Waste Partnership plant at Bolton Road.

Jobs on offer include machine operators, supervisors and other more general roles to do with handling waste management.

The £750m development will be commissioned early next year and be fully operational by July 2015. It will process up to 265,000 tonnes of household and commercial waste every year from across Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster to recycle instead of it being sent to landfill.

All new posts will be advertised in Job Centre Plus, and details are available on a number of websites including www.shanksmunicipal.co.uk and www.bdronline.co.uk.

The project is being led by 3SE - a partnership between specialist waste contractor Shanks Group plc and Scottish & Southern Energy plc.

Representatives from Shanks will be on hand at the open day to answer questions about the facility and the jobs. Closing date for applications is September 30.

Shanks Contracts Director, Colin Fletcher, said: “We have made a small number of appointments to specialist positions already and are now keen to recruit the rest of the team.

“We need to fill a wide range of roles and we look forward to taking this major step forward and getting people on board ready for the opening next summer.

“This is an exciting new development which will revolutionise the treatment of leftover household waste from Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham.”
