One hundred of Yorkshire’s famous attractions and landmarks – that’s the focus of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s celebratory Grand Départ map, drawn by Yorkshire artist Tim Bulmer.
Each map is designed as a sweepstake, to raise up to £100 for Marie Curie’s work. Marie Curie is the official charity partner of the Tour de France Grand Départ.
Said Tim: “It was a pleasure to be able to use my artistic imagination for a cause like Marie Curie. Every £100 raised from these maps funds a Marie Curie nurse to look after someone with a terminal illness for five hours.”
Marking the countdown of a month until Le Tour begins, the map was launched at JORVIK Viking Centre in York, one of the many attractions featured.
Said Paul Whiting, Marketing Officer for the JORVIK Group: “We’re delighted to be able to show our support for Marie Curie, and of course we’re doubly pleased that the JORVIK Viking Centre features on Tim’s map.”
Copies of the map can be requested by any individual or business / organisation. Participants simply pay £1 to have their name next to their chosen Yorkshire location. A prize draw can then offer either a cash prize, or one of the organisers’ choice.
Added Tim: “I’d really encourage all Yorkshire businesses and organisations to get involved and request their own map to use with their own employees, customers or visitors.”
