Police are investigating a football fan who allegedly stole a seat from Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium and then posted photos online posing with it.

The Middlesbrough fan, posting under the name Lewis Crowe, 21, wrote: “Hahah knicked (sic) a seat at Doncaster #utb #awaydays” along with a photo of the seat on a coach after Saturday’s match between the two sides which ended 0-0.

He later took to Facebook to post another photo, making a rude gesture to the camera and clutching the seat emblazoned with tape spelling out UTB - Up The Boro.

Angry Doncaster Rovers fans took to social media to slam the supporter as news of the photos spread.

On the Doncaster Rovers FC Facebook group Mark Heyes posted: “It’s the fact he has taken it on himself to show off and brag by posting it online that is worse than the actual theft.”

Dave Fitzpatrick wrote: “The cost of replacing and fixing the seat will probably be over £100 when the clubs trying to keep gate price’s down they can well do without him.

“If he is reported the FA should ban him from every ground!!!!”

Another fan, Maria Ditch, wrote: “I’d make him fix it if I was his mother!”

Several fans added that they would be reporting the matter to the police and both Middlesbrough and Doncaster Rovers.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said they had been made aware of the matter and were investigating, working alongside the clubs.
