A quick thinking Doncaster scout has been honoured after rushing to the aid of a woman who suffered a seizure.

Six-year-old beaver scout Lola Paterson, from the 3rd Rossington (Doncaster) Scout Group has been awarded the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Meritorious Conduct medal.

It was in recognition of her bravery when she went to get help for a holiday representative who had suffered a seizure while in her care.

The incident happened in October 2013 in Cyprus.

Lola said: “I just did what I thought I should do to look after her as she was in need. I’m glad she was OK afterwards.”

Proud dad Gareth said: “Lola’s enjoyment at beavers has really brought out a lot of confidence in her and also courage which not only helped in dealing with the incident but also coping with the emotional side after.”

TV adventurer and chief scout Bear Grylls said: “Courage is often about how we react to overwhelming odds. And it is impossible to be courageous if at first you aren’t also afraid. Courage involves facing our fears, and walking through them – and despite them.

“Everyone in scouting would like to say a massive well done to Lola on being awarded this gallantry award.”
