The construction of a controversial rubbish dump is set to start after it was ruled a public inquiry into the development was not needed.

Doncaster Council’s planning committee had granted permission for the authority to build a waste transfer centre in Kirk Sandall, but a final decision rested with the Government.

But now Nick Boles, Secretary of State for Planning, has confirmed he will not order a potentially lengthy public hearing, paving the way for the council to start work.
