A Doncaster mum has defended her role in a controversial TV documentary in which her baby daughter was dressed in ‘blinged up’ clothes.

Blinging Up Baby featured parents who like to dress their children in expensive clothes. One parent even gave her two-year-old daughter spray tans.

Doncaster beautician Sammy Bushell, 26, who appeared in the documentary, says that while she does not agree with children being given spray tans or hair extensions, she is proud to dress her children, Hallie-Mae, one, and Harry, four, in expensive designer clothing.

When taking her on special days out, Sammy says she likes to dress Hallie-Mae in Spanish dresses, smock dresses, petticoats and expensive shoes from boutiques in Doncaster and beyond.

She said: “I like my children to look different. I don’t want them to look the same as other children with clothes from the high street.

“That’s not to say I don’t shop on the high street for anything. People have made out like I buy them new clothes all year round, but I probably buy them new clothes four months out of the year – I just plan in advance and pay over two months. I buy their clothes before they’ve even been in the shops. I’ve already bought their clothes for autumn and winter.”

Sammy has faced criticism from people on social media for her love of designer dresses following the Channel Five documentary and an appearance on ITV’s This Morning. But she says she would never dress her children in anything they did not want or were uncomfortable with. She added: “People gave me a lot of flack for painting her toenails, but I gave her a patch test before I did it, and I don’t see the harm in it.”
