The death of a man in a Doncaster lake is not being treated as suspicious, a police spokesman has confirmed this afternoon.

Police divers recovered the body of the 27-year-old man from the lake at Auckley Quarry on Tuesday.

The police spokesman confirmed there was no suggestion of foul play.

Instead he said the death was being treated as an ‘unfortunate accident’ involving a swimmer who got out of his depth.

Emergency services were first called to the old quarry off Hurst Lane, just after 9pm on Monday.

The identity of the man - who was swimming in a group of eight pals - has not yet been released by Doncaster coroners.
