A bus has collided with an ambulance responding to an emergency call.

The collision occurred on Cleveland Street at approximately 11.30am, and police temporarily closed part of the road to allow the vehicles involved to be moved out of the way and for officers to make enquiries.

Eye witness, Philip Wheeler, of Plantation Close, Askern, says the ambulance was responding to an emergency call when the collision took place.

The 54-year-old added: “The ambulance was coming round the corner of Wood Street on to Cleveland Street with its blue lights on.

Then I heard a bang and I think the door on the bus was smashed.”

More to follow.
