Jobs at an optician’s have been safeguarded after the company was taken over.

Rayner Opticians on Mexborough High Street has become part of the Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care business.

It follows the acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, of 19 Rayner branches by Birmingham founded Scrivens.

The acquisition safeguards 75 jobs in total, including four positions at the Mexborough branch, which has served the town for 11 years.

Branch manager Susan Hathaway said: “Scrivens is a well-respected, family owned business that recognises the value of providing quality optical services on local high streets.

“We are delighted to be joining the ‘family’ and to have the opportunity to provide a seamless service experience for our existing and new customers.”

The branch will be re-branded to Scrivens in June.
