A respected Doncaster doctor has been convicted of sexually assaulting female patients over a period of 35 years.
Andrew Michael Johnson, aged 61, of Station Road, Bawtry, is now serving a sentence of 11 years eight months after admitting further offences committed against a 14-year-old girl, who was not a patient, in the 1990s.
Johnson, was already serving a nine-year prison sentence for the offences committed at his surgeries in Bawtry and Blyth but the media has been prevented from reporting those matters until a second trial was concluded.
This morning he changed his plea to guilty on 12 counts of indecent assault against the girl and the restrictions were lifted.
Johnson is a committed Christian, worshipping at the Reachout Christian Fellowship church in Bawtry for many years.
The first trial heard he sexually assaulted nine victims in a variety of ways ranging from indecent touching to sexual assault, btween 1979 and 2005.
In April this year he was convicted of 15 counts and sentenced to five years but last month this was increased to nine years by the Court of Appeal bcause prosecutors considered it unduly lenient.
Johnson retired as a GP in 2007.
Full details of the case will be published online and in tomorrow’s Doncaster edition of The Star.
