A teenage dog walker was left with a head injury and bruises when two men attempted to snatch her beloved pet.

Dana Mangham, 16, of Ivanhoe Road, Conisbrough, was walking Yorkshire terrier Lilly when the men tried to cut the lead attached to her pet.

Mum Corina Mangham, 42, said the incident which happened in a snicket between Athelstane Road and Ivanhoe Road, had left the Doncaster College student frightened to go out alone.

“She felt herself being pushed towards a wall,” said Corina.

“At the time she thought they were after her phone so fumbled in her pocket. They started smashing her hand against the wall and she realised they were after the dog. She held onto the lead and then they banged her head against the wall.

“The dog bit one of them and they stuck the boot in. Dana dropped down to protect Lilly.”

Dana was checked over in hospital following the incident which happened at about 7pm on January 19. Police are investigating.
