Construction work is under way to create a new £10 million secondary school in the borough.

The work on De Warenne Academy in Conisbrough will include a two-storey main school building, refurbishment of the existing sports hall, and the remodeling of the student support block to create a new design, technology and construction centre.

A building at the rear of the existing academy in Gardens Lane, will remain operational during construction.

The work will see the academy expanded to provide 750 places for 11-18 year olds.

Completion is scheduled for February 2013.

Principal Gill Pollard said, “It will allow us to give our students the modern facilities that they deserve and support us in continuing the significant improvements that have already been made since we became an academy.”
