Town centre out of bounds for man who pushed bobby

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

A DRUNK who attacked a policeman has been banned from every bar in Doncaster town centre for the next year.

Lee Friar, aged 27, was given a 12-month drink-banning order and ordered to pay almost £200 for his drunk and disorderly behaviour when he travelled from his home in North Yorkshire for a night out.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 20, at approximately 1.45am when Friar was on Silver Street.

An officer approached him because he appeared to be highly intoxicated and was ‘stumbling around’.

He bumped into a barrier outside one of the bars and the officer advised him the best thing would be to go home.

Friar then became verbally abusive to the officer and, despite being warned about his behaviour, he pushed the officer in the face with both hands causing him to fall backwards.

Friar, of Brook Street, Selby, was then arrested for being drunk and disorderly and assaulting an officer.

When he appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court he pleaded guilty and was given a 12-month Drink Banning Order which prohibits him from entering any public house or club within Doncaster town centre.

He also had to pay compensation of £50, a victim surcharge of £60, plus £85 costs.

PC Jules Moss said: “As a result of his behaviour, Friar can no longer enjoy a night out in Doncaster. Violent and aggressive behaviour induced by alcohol will not be tolerated and it is not an excuse to act in this manner.”
