Top attractions for new season

GOOLE'S new entertainments complex has unveiled its first full season with a host of attractions designed to capture audiences.

Junction's new programme of films include Up (January 6-8) a computer-animated adventure about a 78-year-old retired balloon salesman who attempts to float his own house to South America in order to explore the wilderness. Teamed with an eight-year-old stowaway named Russel, the most unlikely duo on earth are about to take off on an unusual adventure to another world.

For older film buffs there is District 9 (February 4 and 5) a story of how 30 years ago aliens landed on earth, only to be exiled to a refugee camp slum on the fringes of Johannesburg.

But when a human discovers a mysterious secret, he finds out what it means to become the ultimate outsider on his own planet.

Light entertainment is provided by Richard Digance (January 16) who is renowned for his music, poetry, comedy and story telling.

Over the last 30 years Digance has performed at festivals, entertained on cruise ships, had his own TV shows, and more recently appeared on Channel 4's Countdown.

Junction organisers say folk lovers are in for a treat on March 20 when two of the best known faces on that music scene - Ashley Hutchings and Ken Nicol - perform tracks from their new joint album, Copper, Russet and Gold.

Ashley Hutchings is a multi-talented writer, arranger, producer and broadcaster, and is the founder of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band.

Ken Nicol is a guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer.

Jazz fans are served up a performance from BBC Jazz Awards Best of Jazz winner Anita Wardell (March 27).

Her range of acclaimed studio albums have receieved four and five-star reviews from jazz publications throughout the UK.

Theatre lovers have a host of performances to look forward to from amateur groups to professional outfits.

Acclaimed comedy duo Lip Service are renowned for their two-woman spin on popular classics.

This time they turn their attention to Sherlock Holmes with Move Over Moriarty (March 13).

The intrepid pair investigate a series of mysterious Music Hall murders, featuring Flying Fernando - Titan of the Trapeze, the Musical Motherless Twins and the Novelty Chicken Act.

Gothic horror combines with Victorian Music Hall as this extraordinary mystery unravels.
