Thurnscoe teen tearaways get asbo letters

CRIME: Crime scene.

CRIME: Crime scene.

SIXTEEN ASBO letters have been served to Dearne parents, after youngsters terrorised a neighbourhood.

Young teens from Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe have run riot in recent weeks, throwing snowballs, wrecking fencing, breaking windows and trampling gardens.

The gangs knock on doors and windows then scarper, scaring elderly residents and leaving a trail of damage.

The issue is a major one in Thurnscoe, and was raised at an area PACT meeting at Goldthorpe last week.

A spokesman for the Dearne Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “People have got fed up with this behaviour. There’s been some damage to people’s property and it can be frightening for elderly residents who live alone.

“It appears this is a new raft of troublemakers and they have all been identified and warned about their behaviour.

“We have sent out 16 initial anti-social behaviour letters and will be watching to clampdown on offenders should any more problems arise.”

Meadow Road in Thurnscoe was one area targeted by the teenagers.

Residents who are concerned about anti-social behaviour should ring 101 to make a complaint as soon as possible after a problem has arisen.

The spokesman said: “All incidents must be reported.”
