Take part in Family History Open Weekend

A FAMILY history open weekend is being hosted by North Lincolnshire Central Library in Scunthorpe on September 23 and 24 to help people discover their family history.

Visit the library and take part in the Family History Open Weekend to find out who you are.

The library has an array of facilities to research people’s family history. These include, census returns, parish registers, old newspapers and information on house history.

People can drop-in to the event where library staff and enthusiastic researchers will be there to talk to and provide help.

Everyone is welcome to attend, from beginners to the more advanced researchers that may have reached a brick wall in their research

If further sources of information are required the library staff will help people locate them if it cannot be found at the library.

The library volunteers have spent a number of years researching their own family history and have a wide range of knowledge.

For more information about the open weekend, contact 01724 860161.

Councillor John Briggs, cabinet member for Asset and Estate Management, Sport, Leisure and Culture, said: “The open weekend is an excellent way to learn about your family history. The library staff will be on hand to help you with your research.

“Everyone is welcome to attend. If you are interested in your family history I would encourage you to drop in at the Central Library and see what you can discover about your family from the wide range of resources available.”
