Sunday fires ‘deliberate arson’

Fire Engine on call

Fire Engine on call

FIREFIGHTERS were called out to three Mexborough and Dearne fires last night - all of which are thought to have been started deliberately.

A blaze at a three-storey derelict property on Adwick Road at Mexborough raged for over two hours late yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews from Dearne, Edlington and Barnsley stations attacked it from above using an aerial ladder platform and left the scene at 5.40pm.

At about 11pm, Dearne firefighters doused a shed fire at an allotment off Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe, and attended a car fire at Maple Road, Mexborough.

The car was too badly damaged to be properly identified but was thought to be a Vauxhall Astra.

No people, animals or nearby properties were put at risk by the fires, said a fire service spokesman.
