‘Strange’ decision’

DONCASTER Mayor Peter Davies has described Labour leader Ed Miliband’s belated support for a directly elected mayor in the town as “very strange”.

Mr Miliband spoke out this week in favour of the current mayoral system, saying that it can bring “stability” and “efficiency”.

But Mr Davies has criticised Mr Miliband for making the comments after the Labour-majority council had committed to a referendum.

“It does seem a very strange way to lead a party,” he said.

The sooner Doncaster is rid of this terrible mayor the better. He only had one election pledge - to get rid of the mayoral system! Now he's backtracked on that.
