Service backs cancer campaign

A DONCASTER health service has given its backing to a Government campaign to raise awareness of bowel cancer.

The town’s Cancer Integrated Information Service is supporting the Be Clear on Bowel Cancer initiative to raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease and encourage more people to be screened.

Joanne O’Marr, Macmillan cancer support facilitator, said: “Awareness of bowel cancer symptoms is low but spotting the signs early and getting medical advice could save people’s lives. We’ll be busy handing out information across the borough during the next two months, as well as talking to people directly.

“The key message is don’t be afraid or embarrassed to see your GP if you have had blood in your poo or have had loose poo for more than three weeks. Your symptoms may be nothing serious, but it is better to have them checked out early to be sure.”
