Scouts gather for celebration

A CONISBROUGH scout group joined hundreds of other youngsters to celebrate scouting in the area at a fun-packed event.

Members of the 25th Doncaster group were part of a huge gathering of more than 1,200 members of South Yorkshire’s scouting community at the special weekend celebration at Hesley Wood in Sheffield.

The event, called Synergise, saw members from all five sections of the scout movement take part in a unique blend of activities ranging from archery and abseiling to circus skills, rifle shooting and waterslides.

More than 40 groups from across South Yorkshire took part in the event with beaver scouts, cub scouts, explorer scouts and network scouts all in attendance.

There was also a traditional camp fire sing-a-long followed by a special talent show which gave budding musicians, dancers and magicians an opportunity take to the stage to show off their skills.

Explorer Scout Thomas Yems, said: “I think that all the scouts really enjoyed all the weekend. The range of people was fantastic, and it was great to meet others from all over South Yorkshire, ranging in age from just six to 25.

“For me, the best part of scouting is the sense of camaraderie. The experience, atmosphere, even the friendships, are the product of this foundation. All the scouts really enjoyed all the different activities and we were busy throughout the whole weekend.”
