Scheme to reduce bills at homes

Hundreds of residents living in Thurnscoe are set to benefit from free energy saving measures to their properties.

Housing and regeneration specialist Keepmoat has teamed up with Barnsley Council to carry out home energy improvements for residents in the town, as part of the Government’s Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP).

Work started last week on eligible properties which will see improvements such as external wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, boiler replacements, fuel switching and draught proofing carried out.

So far, over 650 private home owners and social housing tenants have signed up to take advantage of the scheme, which could see a reduction in fuel bills in excess of £1,000.

Stephen Batty, Renewable and Energy Partnering Manager at Keepmoat, said: “We are encouraging as many eligible residents as possible to take advantage of this fantastic free offer.

“There is no cost to homeowners and the improvements will not only keep them warm in the winter but also help them save on their fuel bills all year round.”

The CESP scheme is available to residents living in specific areas that have been identified by the Government as most in need of the work.

Households in qualifying areas of Thurnscoe will have received a letter from the council.

Residents who have not yet responded and would like to benefit from the improvements should call Keepmoat’s Customer Services Team on 0800 019 0919. The offer is only valid for a limited period of time and all works to properties must be completed by end of December 2012.

Keepmoat is also currently working in Thurnscoe to deliver 875 energy efficient homes at its £90 million Springside at Seasons development.
