A NOISY neighbour is £900 worse off after she failed to stop shouting and playing loud music.

Sharron Walsh, of Rawmarsh Hill, Parkgate, was given her second anti-social behaviour order plus the fine at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court on January 30 this year, after earlier being convicted of breaching an Abatement Notice served by the Council under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The Court heard that Ms Walsh breached the notice on three separate occasions and sentenced her to a fine of £200 for each of the three offences, before ordering her to pay £300 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Ms Walsh also received a CRASBO for two years which prohibits her from repeating her behaviour anywhere within the borough. The CRASBO is an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) made after an individual is convicted for an offence involving anti-social behaviour. If an Anti-Social Behaviour Order is breached, the Court can further fine or imprison an individual for up to five years.

Magistrates heard that Ms Walsh had been served a two-year ASBO in 2009 after she disturbed neighbours at her previous address at Spalton Road, Parkgate.

In 2012, Rotherham Council’s Community Protection Unit received more than 1300 domestic noise related complaints. In many cases, individuals were not aware that they were causing nuisance to their neighbours and stopped when the issue was brought to their attention. If residents refuse to co-operate, the Council and partners will then gather evidence and instigate legal action.

Cabinet Member for Safe and Attractive Neighbourhoods Councillor Rose McNeely said: “The Council takes anti-social behaviour very seriously and will not hesitate to take legal action if residents do not show respect for their neighbours.

“Combating anti-social behaviour is a priority for the Council and its partners, who are committed to using all legal powers available to protect residents.”
