MORE than 200 glowing balloons, lanterns and fireworks lit up the night sky over Mexborough to mark the second anniversary since three teenagers were killed in a road crash.

Family members and friends of Lauren Birkett, Robert Tepper and Jonathan Scott gathered to release them from Mexborough School playing fields at 8pm last Thursday – exactly two years since the trio were lost in a head-on smash near Sticking Hill, Adwick Road.

Lauren’s dad Andrew, a 48-year-old glass worker from Lynwood Drive, Mexborough, said: “It looked quite beautiful over the skies and it was a really touching evening.”

Lauren, 16, of Lynwood Drive, Robert, 17 of Stenson Terrace, both Mexborough, and Jonathan, 17, of Park Road, Consibrough, died when the Vauxhall Corsa they were travelling in hit a VW Golf.
