SEPTUAGENARIAN athlete Ray Matthews has a new challenge - this time to benefit two charities.

Parkgate-based Ray whose previous feats have included the infamous Sahara Desert run, will attempt a solo 150 mile run around Rotherham, as part of the 50 mile International Rowbothams Round Rotherham race which takes place every year. He will attempt to complete it three times and within 36 hours.

Ray will set off on October 19 at 5pm from Dearne Valley College, to complete 150 miles by Sunday morning.

The two charities to benefit will be Blind Veterans UK and the Newman Special School, Rotherham.
