STUDENTS can blow their own trumpet after an academy was given £520 to buy instruments.

Howarth Timber and Building Supplies in Thorne gave the money to Trinity Academy in order to encourage pupils to take up an instrument, particularly a wind one.

Sam Fisher, the academy’s head of music, said: “Music plays a central role in much of academy life and the students here have great enthusiasm for learning instruments.”

John Brandon, manager of Thorne Howarth Timber, said: “I really believe in what they’re doing at Trinity.

“We are pleased to support them, especially through music and providing instruments will be a lasting legacy in terms of opportunities for students now and in the future.”
