CRIME: Crime scene.

A DOZEN people were arrested and a large amount of drugs was seized by Doncaster police in a day of action to combat burglary in the town.

Some stolen property was recovered as well as a substantial number of cannabis plants when homes were searched.

As part of the day of action, police executed 14 warrants across the borough relating to burglary or stolen goods, and conducted two road policing operations to identify and stop vehicles and occupants suspected of involvement in cross-border crime.

They also carried out high-visibility patrols in the town centre and performed checks in all second-hand and gold outlets as well as holding five crime prevention stalls in different locations across Doncaster, with officers offering property marking.

There were two arrests at a house on Large Square, Stainforth, and two more at a property on Grange Lane, Rossington, all on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

A search at a property on Crimpsall Road, Hexthorpe, resulted in another arrest on suspicion of handling stolen goods, as well as the recovery of 20 bicycles, believed to be stolen.

The biggest cannabis haul was at an address in Crossways North, Wheatley Hills, where officers recovered approximately 200 plants.

And a warrant at an address on Hills Close, Mexborough, led to the seizure of another 100 cannabis plants, with one man arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply after 2.77kg of cannabis leaf was recovered at an address on Smillie Road, Rossington.

Further arrests included two for failing to appear at court for burglary offences, one for possession of cannabis, one for theft and one for driving with no insurance.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Andy Shields said: “We had a successful day in Doncaster, targeting the individuals who believe they can commit crime and cause misery within our communities.”
