A TRACTOR driver may hold vital information about a fatal crash on a level crossing which claimed the life of a four-year-old girl.

British Transport Police is appealing for the driver to come forward and help officers with their inquiry into the collision in Misson Springs in which Emma Lifsey was fatally injured.

Emma, of Haxey, was airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital following the crash on Tuesday but died in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police believe a tractor driver was close to Beech Hill crossing in Springs Road at the time of the collision which happened at around 12.30pm.

Det Insp Mick Jackson of British Transport Police said, “We believe that a man driving a tractor may have been close to the crossing prior to the collision. He may have vital information which could assist our investigations into this tragic incident.”

A 67-year-old woman who was driving a black Volvo suffered serious neck injuries and bruising and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. She was in a stable condition.

Officers are planning on speaking to her.

Investigations into how the car came to be on the tracks are continuing. The train has been moved to a depot in Doncaster where it will be forensically examined.

The line has reopened.
