Park named one of best

ELSECAR Park has been named as one of the best in the country for the fifth year in a row.

The park received the Green Flag Award - a sign to visitors that the park is well maintained and well managed, with excellent facilities.

Award judges were impressed with such features as the children’s play area, crazy golf, bandstand and walking routes. Disabled access was also praised.

Meanwhile, Cannon Hall Park was given the same award for the second successive year and Worsbrough Mill Country Park receives the flag for the first time.

The parks are among a select number of parks and green spaces that are considered the cream of the crop in the UK.

This year, a record number 1,424 parks and green spaces will fly the Green Flag, providing local communities with a place to play and relax.

Councillor Linda Burgess, Cabinet spokesperson for Development, Environment and Culture (Strategy, Programme and Projects), said: “I’m thrilled that Cannon Hall Park and Elsecar Park have retained their Green Flag status and that Worsbrough Mill Country Park has achieved it this year.

“Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved for their hard work in achieving this, including staff, volunteers and friends groups.

“I would encourage the people of Barnsley to visit and enjoy these parks.”
