X-FACTOR pop sensation Louis Tomlinson had the Becks factor - when scores of female fans turned up to watch him play football.

For the Bessacarr heart-throb was given David Beckham style star treatment as he took to the field the Keepmoat Stadium for a kick-about with pals.

Louis, one fifth of boy band One Direction, even followed in the footsteps of the former Manchester United and England idol by sporting the new Red Devils’ home shirt for his game in front of legions of swooning teenage admirers.

Bronzed from a recent recording trip to Los Angeles, the star booked out two football pitches at the Keepmoat on Tuesday - and fans from across the country looked on excitedly from the sidelines as the toned teenager took to the field with his Doncaster-based mates.

The 19-year-old, who finished third along with the rest of One Direction in last year’s talent contest final, was mobbed by camera wielding fans as he made his way to the changing rooms.

Some girls travelled up to nine hours to catch a glimpse of the pop star, coming from as far afield as Scotland to watch as he played, donning United’s new home kit as well as a pair of top-of-the range Nike football boots.

He said: “It’s crazy! It’s overwhelming but it is nice for people to support me obviously. I am doing something that I love.”

“We have just come off a photo shoot which went really well and we have been in LA and Sweden. It has been amazing.”

He added that the month-long recording trip to the States had been “very productive” with band-mates Harry, Liam, Niall and Zayn recording a host of songs in preparation for One Direction’s debut album.

“The album has been going really well. We are really, really excited about the sound we have got - it is what we are going for. It is more gritty, more guitar based,” he said.

“We are in a strong position at the moment - we have been lucky enough to have some fantastic writers and some amazing producers. And we try and get involved with the writing as much as we can.”

Their first single is set to be released in the next few months with the album due to hit shelves by end of the year with a UK tour to follow.

A second book release is also planned this year.
