A MAN whose body was found in a Mexborough home has been named as Christopher Rooney.

Detectives launched a murder investigation after the 48-year-old’s body was found in his home in Auckland Road, at 1.45pm on Sunday.

Formal identification took place following yesterday’s post-mortem examination, which found that Mr Rooney died from multiple injuries to his head and body.

Detectives have been granted more time to question the 44-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday and he remains in police custody.

The majority of police cordons have been removed in Mexborough today with just one remaining at Mr Rooney’s home.

Anyone with information that could assist the ongoing murder investigation should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
