Youngsters at a Doncaster school which scooped a top anti-racism award got the chance to meet their MP.

Rosie Winterton, who represents Doncaster Central constituency, spoke to pupils and was given a tour of classrooms during her visit to Hexthorpe Primary School, on Urban Road, Hexthorpe.

Children from the school won the top prize at the Show Racism the Red Card school competition awards last year.

The school has also won an Investors in Pupils award and a Leading Parental Partnership award.

Rosie said: “I was very impressed. One of the best parts of my job is visiting schools, and I particularly enjoyed this visit because it gave me the opportunity to meet the children and teachers while they were hard at work.”

Headteacher Liz Ellison said: “The school staff and governors work really hard to maximise all the opportunities we can help our children achieve. Much of our success is due to the support we get from parents and the local community.”
