ISLE MP Andrew Percy is encouraging parents and their children to get their thinking caps on and take part in a fundraising family quiz.

More than 100 quiz sheets have been sold so far, with proceeds going towards a project to pay for the restoration of old copies of the Epworth Bells.

But more money still needs to be raised and Mr Percy urged families to have a go at the quiz after visiting Epworth Mechanics’ Institute Library to look over the old copies.

He said: “I was a history teacher in Scunthorpe so I know how useful old papers are for finding out information. It is important that newspapers are preserved and I would urge people to help with the appeal.”

A total of £700 needs to be raised to enable North Lincolnshire Council to release a £6,300 grant.

Volunteers still need £150 and quiz sheets are available from the library for a small charge. They must be handed in by February 19 and the winner will take home a prize.
