A DONCASTER MP has shown her support for the borough’s historic market.

Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central, paid a visit to traders to discuss their concerns and give them her backing in their campaign to attract more customers.

She met with stallholders in the Market Place last Friday as part of her commitment to support the borough’s biggest market.

She also held a meeting with Nigel Wilkinson, chairman of Doncaster Market Traders’ Association.

The MP said: “Markets bring investment and energy to an area, as well as being a great opportunity to pick up quality goods at excellent prices.

“I think many people don’t realise the range of things available at Doncaster market.

Rosie added: “I don’t want our markets to be a hidden treasures – I want people to use and enjoy them, and at the same time support an important part of Doncaster’s local economy.” During her meeting she met fishmonger Norman Rouse, the oldest stallholder in the market, who is now in his nineties.

Rosie added her name to the Love Your Local Market campaign, which celebrates the role markets play in their communities, last year.
