Marching towards career in marines

A TEENAGE soldier is marching towards a career with an elite force after passing one of the toughest military challenges.

Aiden Redmile, a former student of Trinity Academy, in Thorne, has passed out from the renowned Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM).

The 17-year-old will soon be set for postings to Iraq and Afghanistan after being awarded the coveted green beret for completing his rigorous training.

Aiden, from Thorne, joined the ranks of the famous Royal Marines after successfully tackling the feared 30-mile speed march that potential new recruits must face.

He had to prove his physical endurance and mental strength, living on the land and sleeping in the wet and the cold.

After coming through the CTCRM, in Devon, he must now head to Portugal, Scotland and Norway for further specialist training in different climates, before going on to serve in conflict zones across the world.

During his time at Trinity Academy, which is sponsored by Sir Peter Vardy's Emmanuel Schools Foundation, Aiden was one of the top sporting performers.

He was cross-country champion for both the school and his house, as well as representing the rugby team.

He has developed those skills even further courtesy of his military training, winning the national Navy and Marines cross-country championships.

Aiden now hopes to become a physical training instructor after forging a career in the Royal Marines.

Academy Principal Ian Brew said: "The green beret is a coveted symbol which represents a tremendous achievement and all that is best in the services. We hope the time that Aidan spent at Trinity helped him in the pursuit of his chosen career.

"We at the Academy are very proud of him. He is a credit to himself and his family. We wish him every success in the future and we will continue to watch his progress with interest."
