Magic fares for students

Students using buses to get to Dearne Valley College are to be offered cheaper tickets.

Leading operator Stagecoach Yorkshire has launched a special Dearne Valley Unirider ticket, which will give the Wath-based college’s 4,000 students unlimited travel in the area for as little as 99p a day.

And in another move, Stagecoach is doubling the frequency of its 22 Magic Bus route, which runs along the Rotherham to Manvers and Wath corridor and serves Dearne Valley College.

The service will run directly into the college grounds at Manvers Park.

The unirider ticket can be used on the 22 service, as well as on routes 4, 14, 25, X10, 42, 108, 109, 200, 220, 221, 222, 224, 226 and 229. It will also be valid part route on selected other services running within an area covering Rotherham, Woodsets, Doncaster, Oldcotes, Styrrup, Great Houghton, Ranskill and Barnsley.

Rupert Cox, Stagecoach Yorkshire’s commercial director, said: “We want to make bus travel affordable for students in the Dearne Valley and for 99p a day they will be able to travel to college, shops, pubs, clubs, the library or wherever. It will give them more freedom for both college and social activities.

“The 22 Magic Bus service has proved to be extremely popular since its launch last May and the doubling in the number of buses to every 10 minutes will boost it even further.”

Called the Magic Bus because of its cheap fares, the low-budget, no-frills 22 uses low floor, step-free single deckers running every 10 minutes from Mondays to Saturdays.
