a NUMBER of energy saving schemes have been introduced at Swinton Library as part of a project to transform it into one of the area’s ‘greenest’ public buildings.
Librarians have formed an eco action plan, which includes initiatives such as boosting the number of books on environmental issues and making sure power points are switched off when not in use. It is part of the wider ‘Dearne Valley Eco Schools Project’ which aims to teach young people about the importance of keeping a low carbon footprint.
Staff will also introduce environmental themes into children’s activities held at the library.
Rita Leary, Principal Library Assistant, said: “This campaign addresses important issues for us all, environmental issues, energy savings and measures for reducing waste which in turn saves money for individuals as well as local authorities.”
