AN exhibition of wintry landscapes by an award-winning artist has proven popular with visitors to Swinton Library.

Rotherham-based artist Chris Bird, 63, put 11 of his creations on display in December, including a morning dawn over Rotherham, which won first prize at the town’s Open Art competition in September.

Other paintings included snowy scenes around Wentworth and two imaginative pictures of space were thrown into the mix.

Mr Bird, a former steelworker who is now a full-time artist, said: “I was pleased with how they paintings turned out. I tried to use local landscapes as an inspiration for some of them.

“I used acrylics which is something fairly new for me. I’m told from staff at the library that the exhibition was popular.”
