A MASSIVE turnout ensured great action and atmosphere at this year’s festival of the Haxey Hood.

Folk of all ages, from near and far, pulled on their wellies to witness the ancient tradition of smoking of the Fool, followed by the all-important scrum for the Hood.

After almost three hours of good-natured grappling the Hood found its way to the King’s Arms at Haxey, to be welcomed by jubilant landlady, Kerry Thompson.

Kerry was lifted by punters to grab the Hood at the door, and said that for her, the experience was “very emotional.”

The Saturday Hood allowed many more folk to enjoy the ancient ritual and huge social event that has featured in the Isle of Axholme for over 650 years.
