July trial for man charged with Thurnscoe murder

THE man charged with the murder of Thurnscoe stab victim Philip Smith, was back in court on Friday.

He appeared by video-link from Doncaster, at Sheffield Crown Court.

Gary McKeown, 36, of Church Street, Thurnscoe, pleads not gulty to the murder of Philip Smith on January 28 in his hometown.

Mr Smith, of Stotfold Drive, Thurnscoe, was found injured at Church Street, Thurnscoe, late on a Saturday afternoon. This followed a disturbance near the junction with Houghton Road.

He was taken to Barnsley Hospital but died from stab injuries as confirmed by a post-mortem examination.

McKeown’s trial was brought forward from September to July 16 by Judge Roger Keen QC.
