Jess’s landslide victory at trials

Jessica Wright of Conisbrough won junior sled dog championships at Aviemore.

A GIRL and her dogs slid to a massive victory when they clinched a championship title in Scotland.

In her very first sled race on snow, 14-year old Jessica Wright of Acacia Grove, Conisbrough, led the field at Aviemore, then romped home to take a top junior title with the huskies she bought herself, Maya and Star.

Against 16 mostly seasoned racers, De Warenne Academy pupil Jessica rode a brand new sled in very icy conditions, over tortuous terrain, said dad Peter.

This was her first major race at the SHCGB Aviemore Sled Dog Rally, and she was supported by her parents Val and Peter, and grandparents Alan and Maureen Jones.

“We couldn’t believe how well she did - I don’t think she could either,” laughed Peter after the eventful weekend.

Jess and the dogs came home with two trophies and a plaque. Much of the event was cancelled due to the very poor conditions.
