Jason has a heart of gold

A THORNE musician has a 'Heart of Gold' when it comes to charity.

Jason Poulston of Ellison Street is launching a specially written and recorded CD at the start of December to raise money for cancer research.

All the proceeds from the sale of the CD called 'Heart of Gold', and sheet music, will be donated to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity to support the work done there and improve treatment and care for patients in this region.

Jason, who is a percussionist with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, a professional drummer with rock band Velvet Star and a joint head of music at Vermuyden School in Goole, originally penned the song for a performance at a charity ball being held by his fianc's aunt Christine Piwowarski.

Christine was organising the ball in aid of the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity to say thank you for the treatment she was receiving at the specialist cancer centre in Sheffield.

Weston Park Hospital is one of only three dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK and has a world leading reputation for the work it does in the fight against cancer.

Sadly Christine lost her fight against the disease before the ball could take place but her family pledged to continue to raise funds in her memory.

"Christine had inspired 'Heart of Gold'," says Jason, who plays the piano on the recording.

"She really did have a heart of gold; even through her illness she was still thinking and doing for others rather than herself.

"I'd already written the track and it got such a good reception from everyone I decided to record it and sell it to raise funds to help other people in Christine's situation.

"My dad has also been treated recently in Weston Park Hospital and has got successfully through his treatment for so I have a lot to be thankful for."

The Limited Edition CD, which has two additional original tracks by Jason, will be on sale from Monday December 1 at a cost of 5. Copies can be bought from Jason's website: www.jasonpoulston.com

The Heart of Gold track is also available to download from iTunes or Napster at a cost of 79p (it is part of an album by Jason called 'Something for Everyone'). Sheet music is also available for 2.99.

All of the money raised will be donated to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

This has been made possible through the generous sponsorship from NKL Automotive (Goole) for the production of the CD.
