WORK to manage and improve woodland near a Doncaster village has been stepped up thanks to a £1,000 grant.

The money is being used by Barnburgh and Harlington Parish Council to improve Cliff Plantation and Stables Wood at Barnburgh, with work including the removal of non-native trees, scrub clearance, management of the woodland flora, clearing paths and removing fallen branches.

The money is from Banks Renewables, which runs the Marr wind farm near the woods. Its community benefits fund will see part of the revenues generated by the wind farm used to fund a range of community and environmental improvements over the next 25 years.

Coun David Packham, chairman of Barnburgh and Harlington Parish Council, said: “This area is a highly valued community resource that is well used by a wide cross-section of our population, and we work hard to keep it in the best possible condition.”

Any community groups in Marr, Hickleton, Barnburgh or Harlington interested in applying for funding from the Marr community benefits fund e-mail enquiries@banksgroup.co.uk or call 0844 209 1515.
