Final talks held over plans to progress with link road

CONSTRUCTION work on a multi-million pound road scheme is set to start in October - subject to funding.

Planning permission to build a link road between Robin Hood Airport and the M18 has already been passed by Doncaster Council’s planning committee in June, however there was still important details to be fine-tuned.

Doncaster Council’s cabinet was due to meet yesterday to discuss the update on the progress of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS), and in particular the plan for securing funding and the approval of entering into a construction contract.

A report was compiled by Neil Firth, head of service transport and accessibility, who offered recommendations to the cabinet to authorise phase two of the £60 million project - the construction.

He requested that the cabinet approve recommendations including the completion of financial agreements with the developers and with ministerial department Business Innovation and Skills for the contributions required to fund the forecasted building cost.

It was also recommended that the cabinet confirmed compulsory purchase orders and side roads orders for the land and reach an agreement with Carillion over a target price for the construction phase.

Mr Firth said in his report: “Along with White Rose Way, FARRRS is one of our priority infrastructure schemes that will help to significantly improve our transport links and stimulate job creation and economic growth.”

Predictions say FARRRS will generate 20,000 jobs in Doncaster.

The road will take traffic from junction three of the M18 to Parrot’s Corner, on the A638 Great North Road. From there, vehicles will use existing roads to get to the airport.
