Fears over plans to store abrasives in Epworth

PLANNERS are being recommended to allow minerals and abrasives to be stored in a barn in Epworth.

North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee will this afternoon discuss the proposal in the wake of a meeting at the site – Broad Lane Farm in Newlands Lane.

Council leader Liz Redfern, who is also a member of Epworth Town Council, had said the site visit was called for because there was significant public interest in the proposal.

Epworth town councillors had intervened with objections to the plan, saying the site was unsuitable because access to it was by a narrow lane, that additional heavy traffic would have a detrimental effect on holiday homes and properties in Mowbray Street, Blow Row and Rectory Street.

Some residents have objected saying that the site, in open countryside, was not suitable for industrial use and the access lane was regularly used by riders, joggers and walkers.

However, a report to North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee said: “The main issues to consider are whether or not the site is a suitable location for such a use, whether or not the access is suitable and whether the proposal will have an unacceptable impact on the local highway network, principally in Epworth itself.”
